If you thought the name of the hotel has anything to do with the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, think again. As the hotel has nothing to do with Nehru, the Prime Minister. It is in fact the ruling Maharwal of Jaisalmer Shri Shalivahan Singhji who laid the foundation stone of Jawhar Niwas Palace way back in 1899. The palace took the final shape under his successor Maharwal Jawahar Singhji. Jawahar Niwas Palace is located just two kilometres from the airport and about three kilometres from the railway station.

Facilities:

Built in golden sand stone by the master craftsmen, Jawahar Niwas Palace has intricately decorated jharokhas and chhatries that are reflective of typical Jaisalmer architecture. The palace has 22 luxurious rooms that are well equipped with modern day facilities. The facilities at the hotel include, telephone, color TV, Travel Desk, barber shop, courier service, front desk, free newspaper, safe deposit box, conference facilities, doctor on call, laundry, currency exchange, and wake up service. The palace also has a beautiful swimming pool.
